Sports Participation Rises, Inactivity Falls, SFIA Study Finds


Pandemic-era imbalances began to shake out in 2023 as team sports and health club-based activities posted positive numbers over the prior year while pickleball continued its rise and other pandemic winners held on to participants, according to SFIA’s 2024 Topline Participation Report. Overall activity among Americans ages 6-plus has now been on the ascent for 10 consecutive years, hitting 242.0 million, or 79% of the demo, in ’23, up 2% over the prior year, 9% over pre-pandemic ’19 and 14% over ’13.
