In the week leading up to Super Bowl XVI, the hot button issue of football helmet standards and related concussions has been much publicized, from being touched upon in a “60 Minutes” profile of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to being discussed extensively in a CNN documentary by Dr. Sanjay Gupta and a Virginia Tech research report released by former network news anchor Stone Phillips. However, at this point, there is no new helmet standard on the horizon for young football players and only small movement on about a dozen lawsuits related to concussions filed by former NFL players.
