KSS' interim chief, board chair, and veteran retail leader, Michael Bender, did not have much to say on its Q1 earnings call about the struggling retailer’s activewear brands, instead talking up its private label apparel business. Active sales in Q1 were driven by KSS’ brands Tek Gear and FLX, the company said, and it plans to elevate its proprietary brand business going forward. Those brands offer lower price points and give customers an exclusive reason to shop at Kohl’s, it believes.
