Columbia Q4 Gains But Outlook Cautious on Warm Winter


Riding the momentum it had generated in Omni-Heat, Columbia generated net income of $36,728,000, up 40% from last year, for the final period of 2011 as revenues gained 15% to $526,076,000 from $457,259,000. However, citing the warm weather and challenging economic climate in the U.S. and Europe that led to cancellations, lower reorders than anticipated and a slowdown in direct-to-consumer sales, COLM forecast sales and earnings growth in the low-single digits for 2012 and said it was implementing cost controls to ensure that expenses did not grow faster than sales.
