Alpen Closes Year with 6% Growth


Net income at the Japanese retailer was up 12% to ¥6,267 million ($39.3 mm) from ¥5,573 million on sales that were 6% higher at ¥285,954 million ($1,794.5 mm), up from ¥268,655 million for the fiscal year ended June 30. General sporting goods led the way with a 14% gain to ¥80,043 million, driven by running footwear, with racket sports, basketball and the World Cup providing a boost.
