OBITUARY: GARY V. ADAMS, the golf industry pioneer, who invented metal-wood drivers and founded both Taylor Made Golf and McHenry Metals Golf, died Jan. 2 after a nine-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 56. The former Chicago area golf salesman took a $24,000 loan on his home to establish Taylor Made, now owned by adidas-Salomon AG. Later, he moved the company from his native McHenry, IL to Vista, CA.
