Sporting Goods Imports End 2023 at Pre-Pandemic Levels


After two years of first trying to catch up with pandemic-induced shortages of sports apparel, footwear and equipment, and then frantically putting the brakes on an ensuing flood of excess product, the industry saw 2023 import volumes that ended up remarkably close to 2019 levels. The final quarter was well down from the end of 2022, when easing supply chain constraints delivered way more product than anyone wanted or needed, falling 22% in aggregate to $4,969.1 million from $6,342.2 million.
