Zumiez Swings to Loss Against Profit


The action sports retailer reported a net loss of $2,137,000 compared to a profit of $2,770,000 in the first quarter ended Apr. 30 as sales fell 3% to $172,970,000 from $177,610,000. Comps tumbled 7.5%, offset by the addition of 47 new stores. ZUMZ said every department comped down for the period, although it was encouraged by some sales of newer brands in the men’s category and the acceleration of some key items in accessories.
