WWW Net gains on Lower Sales in Low Growth Environment
Operating in a retail market that is continuing to contract with added challenges from the weather, Wolverine World Wide reported net income rose 5% to $48.2 million from $45.8 million for the 12 weeks ended Sep. 10 as revenues declined 11% to $603.7 million from $678.9 million, partially on the planned closing of mostly Stride Rite stores but also because of sales declines in its major brands of Merrell, Keds, Saucony and Sperry.
