Louisville Fires Rick Pitino in Wake of NCAA Scandal
As expected, a unanimous vote of the Cardinals’ athletic association board fired the long-time men’s basketball coach after a meeting which lasted most of the day. Pitino had been suspended without pay since the U.S. Attorney revealed details of the ongoing investigation into a conspiracy of payoffs between Adidas, colleges and players. The board said that Pitino’s involvement in the matter was “illustrative of a pattern and practice of inappropriate behavior,” although no charges were filed against him.
