Hanesbrands Activewear Slips in Q2


Activewear operating profit fell 7% to $55,81,000 from $60,033,000 in the second quarter ended Jul. 2 on 4% lower segment revenues at $367,394,000 vs. $381,087,000 hurt by a decline in Hanes activewear and Champion sales that were impacted by sporting goods bankruptcies and delivery timing. U.S. Champion sales were flat overall, with double-digit gains in specialty, mid-single-digit growth in the mass channel and mid-teens growth in the college bookstore channel offset by declines in sporting goods and department stores where shipments were concentrated in the second quarter last year.
