Led by strong athletic sales and a significant uptick in its e-commerce business, Famous Footwear helped drive a 3% gain in net earnings at Caleres for Q3 ended Oct. 31 to $34.0 million from $33.1 million as sales were flat at $728.6 million against $729.3 million. Famous, with a 4.4% comp store improvement for the period, saw operating income rise 6% to $39,638,000 from $37,405,000 as sales grew 2% to$456,177,000 from $449,085,000. Excluding the impact of selling Shoes.com, sales would have been up 2%, and this year’s results included $1.2 million in debt extinguishment costs.
