Columbia Sees Solid Gains in Q1 but U.S. Wholesale Outlook Weak

Net income rose 13% to $36,006,000 from $31,770,000 for the period ended Mar. 31 on a sales improvement of 4% to $543,793,000 compared to $525,136,000. However, COLM slightly lowered guidance to a FY gain of 3% against last year’s $2.38 billion, including 1 point of currency headwinds, noting the toll that bankruptcies and store closings on its U.S. wholesale business is going to produce a mid-single-digit decline in that channel for the year.
