YouTube Deletes, then Restores Brownells Video Channel
The Grinnell, IA, shooting sports retailer apparently fell victim to YouTube’s controversial new firearms content guidelines which broadly prohibit “content that intends to sell firearms or certain firearms accessories … or links to sites that sell these items.” Brownells asked its customers to reach out to the video hosting site, and yesterday the video channel was restored, while YouTube apologized for making a mistake. YouTube’s policy was announced following the Parkland school shooting earlier this year, and specifically mentions videos about bump stocks, converting semi-automatic firearms to full-auto, homemade silencers and other questionably legal topics.
