Xinjiang Ban Becomes Law
President Joe Biden has signed the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act into law, banning the import of all goods from China’s Xinjiang region unless proved to be produced outside of forced labor conditions. The law contains a “rebuttable presumption” provision assuming goods from the region—home to detention camps for Uyghurs and other Muslim groups—are made with forced labor and places the burden on importers to prove otherwise.
