The assets associated with its defense department business, including the Big Rapids, MI, factory, were sold to Original Footwear, a TN company that specializes in military contracting. WWW noted in a statement that one prime reason for selling the business was that Original qualifies as a small business and therefore has access to bid on contracts that it cannot. Wolverine also noted that it has significantly upgraded the factory in recent years and the facility will continue to supply WWW with certain products. Also, it noted that it would retain its Bates civilian and military exchange business.
