SPD chairman Keith Hellawell and director Simon Bentley both announced they were resigning from the company’s board just before its annual shareholders meeting, even though both were on the ballot to be reappointed. Investors had been pressuring Hellawell in recent months over the company’s treatment of workers and for failing to control CEO Mike Ashley, and advisory groups had recommended against his re-election, according to a report in The Guardian.
