SG Import Growth Slows on Higher Prices
The declared customs value of sporting goods imports for the first quarter of 2012 was up just 4% to $3,872.1 million from $3,707.0 million the prior year as a 10.9% increase in the average price of a declared sporting goods item was partially offset by a 7% decline in the number of units imported. This year’s increase in average declared cost was on top of an 8.3% increase in the first quarter of last year when unit imports declined only 1%.
