SCOTUS to Hear Case on Internet Sales Tax


Addressing a long-standing issue with brick-and-mortar retailers, the Supreme Court agreed to hear and appeal of a SD case that would reverse its earlier ruling that severely limited states’ ability to collect sales tax on internet commerce if the retailer has no physical presence in the state where the merchandise was sold. Traditional retailers have long complained that this ruling put them at a significant disadvantage relative to most small online retailers who have a presence in one or just a limited number of states.
