NICS Checks Are Down in Feb., but Parkland May Spark Demand
Gun control chatter following the Parkland school shooting, which occurred halfway through the month, seems to have jolted consumers who had been lulled into complacency after the 2016 election. NSSF-adjusted FBI NICS background checks were off just 2.0% in Feb. to 1,271,942 from 1,298,208 last year, narrowing considerably from an 8.0% drop in Jan. The NSSF’s adjusted NICS checks back out background checks for concealed carry weapons permits and checks from active CCW permit databases to more accurately reflect gun sales.
