Imports Edge Up on Higher Apparel, Equipment Shipments
The value of sporting goods imports rose 3.9% in the second quarter of this year to $4,422.0 million from $4,255.3 million as a 15.8% surge in apparel imports to $877.2 million and a 4.1% gain in equipment imports to $2,080.8 million more than offset the 2.3% decline in sneaker imports to $1,464.0 million. The rate was generally in line with Q1, bringing the first half imports to an increase of 3.6% to $8,756.3 million with sneaker imports flat in H1, apparel up 12.2% and equipment up 2.9%.
