Imports Are Sluggish In Q2 As Liquidations Roil Market


A sluggish retail environment exacerbated by the unprecedented liquidation activity from Sports Authority and Sport Chalet kept the brakes on imports in Q2 as the total fell 1.5% to $4,730.7 million from $4,800.6 million in the prior year. Sneaker imports were slightly positive at 2.2% to $1,754.3 million against $1,715.8 million for the three months ended June, but apparel imports were off 6.9% to $879.6 million from $944.9 million and equipment imports dipped 2.0% to $2,096.7 million from $2,139.9 million.
