House Committee Adds Footwear to Berry Amendment


The House Armed Services Committee voted to require the Department of Defense to provide American-made footwear to all new recruits, replacing an allowance that could be used to purchase any footwear including imports, as part of the Annual Defense Authorization Act. The provision was sponsored by Niki Tsongas (D-MA), who has actively backed New Balance’s efforts to get the Armed Services to buy American-made footwear. The amendment was also endorsed by Wolverine World Wide, which has a factory in Big Rapids, MI.
