The wholesale value of the sports apparel market reached $80,436 million in 2017 compared to $78,282 million for the prior year as solid gains in Europe and Asia/Pacific helped overcome a relatively flat performance in the U.S. market and a decline in the struggling Latin American and emerging markets. The U.S. market, besieged by an inventory glut that produced heavy promotions throughout the year, managed only a 0.9% increase to $37,008 million from $36,687 million while Europe gained 4.3% to 20,209 million from $19,374 million and Asia/Pacific rose 10.0% to $16,533 million from $15,026 million.
