Gorilla warfare, as in the 800-pound variety, is breaking out in Houston as sporting goods giants Dick's and Academy begin their battle for supremacy in the Lone Star State's biggest city. As we reported previously, Dick's is opening six stores in the Houston market this weekend. Two locations-Baybrook Mall in Friendswood and The Shoppes at Parkwest in Katy-feature a Dick's Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy and Field & Stream side-by-side, all connected. Academy currently has about 20 stores in the Houston area.
