Clarus Plans Softgoods Expansion for Black Diamond


Seeking to leverage its market position in climbing hardgoods, CLAR plans to extend Black Diamond into footwear and expand apparel and wants to become the identity brand for climbing enthusiasts. In a presentation at the Liolios Gateway Conference, management said the explosion of indoor climbing among 15- to 25-year-olds is an opportunity to outfit them from head to toe with a brand that identifies their passion. CEO John Walbrecht, who joined Black Diamond from Mountain Hardwear last fall, has moved aggressively to bring in the right personnel to build a foundation for growth.
