Bain Capital Buys Varsity Brands for a Reported $2.5 Billion
The cheerleading and team sports powerhouse was sold by Charlesbank which acquired the company in 2015 for $1.5 billion from an ESOP. At that time, it had sales of $1.2 billion but sales are now estimated at $1.5 billion through its three main operating companies: Varsity Spirit cheerleading uniforms and competitions, BSN Sports team equipment and uniforms and Herff Jones that specializes in graduation gowns, class rings and the like.
