Asics Sees H1 Swing to Profit after Dismal 2016


Comprehensive net income was ¥1,246 million ($11.2 million) against a loss of ¥19,758 million in the first half ended Jun. 30 on a 3% sales decline to ¥203,735 million ($1,834.5 million) from ¥210,681 million. Net income excluding currency hedges and other comprehensive items fell 1% to ¥11,687 million ($105.2 million) from ¥11,849 million. Gross margin improved 180 basis points to 46.4%, but SG&A bulged by almost ¥4 billion on higher spending for retail stores and investments in digital. Asics maintained its guidance for 2017 sales of ¥420 billion and net income of ¥13 billion.
