THE FINISH LINE HAS UGLY Q1; FOOTWEAR COMPS SLIDE 8.1%.


Perhaps the most positive news out of the Q1 salesannouncement for the period ended May 27 was that The Finish Line banner showedpositive gains in men’s casuals from Adidas, Puma, Converse and Asics, headwearposted a ‘significant increase’ and the chain’s Internet sales grew doubledigits.

Overall, FINL reported a 0.8% decline in Q1 sales to$289,046,000 versus $291,267,000. Comparable store sales dipped 7.2% during the13 weeks with footwear comps off 8.1% and negative in all three months (-9.8%March, -6.4% April, -7.4% May). There were double-digit declines in women’s,which was impacted by weakness in performance, and kids on softness in girls.Same store soft goods ... Log in to view full article.
