STRIDE RITE SEES STRENGTH FROM TOMMY, INTERNATIONAL IN Q2.


Net income was 6% higher at $11,900,000 against$11,219,000 as SRR’s total Q2 revenues increased 7% to $165,009,000 from$154,286,000. For the period ended May 28, Keds sales were off 3% despite astrong performance from basic Microstretch styles, which sold 1.4million pairs. The Microstretch concept will be expanded into casual fare thisfall, but the company still believes total brand sales will decline during theseason. Gross profit margin dipped 100 basis points in Q2 to 38.5%. Operatingincome rose 11% to $18,913,000 versus $16,976,000.
