NIKE PLEDGES REFORMS, OUTSIDE MONITORING IN FACTORIES.
Chief Eager Beaverton Phil Knight told the NationalPress Club that Nike factories must all meet OSHA standards forclean air by the end of the year and further said Nike sneakerfactories will be prohibited from hiring any worker under theage of 18 and apparel and equipment factories will be prohibitedfrom hiring anyone under the age of 16. To ensure compliance,the E.B.s recognized the need for independent monitoring, whichwill likely include some combination of auditing firms and non-governmentorganizations.
