MOTHER NATURE’S SNOW DUMP IS GOOD, BAD FOR BUSINESS.
Outerwear sellers in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region,along with purveyors of windshield washer fluid, liquor, milk and shovels,won’t offer any complaints about Mother Nature. She dumped as much as 60 inchesof snow on parts of the region in two storms on Feb. 6 and Feb. 9-10 and thoseretailers got a positive uptick from the weather’s wrath. But the Feb. 6 stormalso affected 75% of Dick’s, 47% of Kohl’s doors and 50% of BJ’s Wholesale Clublocations in the U.S. Analysts predicted the double dose of snowstorms couldreduce weekly year-over-year sales at many brick-and-mortar retailers in theregion by 10-25%.
