KID SALES OFFSET DECLINE IN SNOW SPORTS PRODUCTS.


Snowsports Industries America reports comp sales forWinter 1999 were off 0.2 per cent to $929 million, but that is a 6.4 per centimprovement over a 6.4 per cent decline posted in Winter 1998. Even thoughWinter 1999’s comparable sales were virtually unchanged, units purchased byretailers showed a 9.2 per cent jump to 22.9 million.

Kids’ products posted healthy increases: junior alpineskis were up 11 per cent to $8.6 million; junior alpine boots were up 2 percent to $5 million; junior alpine bindings were up 52 per cent to $4 million;junior performance cross-country skis gained 40 per cent to $174,000;children’s parkas were up ...
