INDUSTRY SALARIES ROSE ABOUT 5 PERCENT IN 1998.
Despite one of the weakest years from a profitstandpoint, top management and middle management salaries rose inthe mid-single digits, according to the SGMAs annualcompensation study. 81 companies responded to the survey, of whom17 per cent were public. Hard goods firms were 70 per cent of theresponses; apparel firms were 21 per cent and sneaker firms were9 per cent. 40 per cent of the firms had sales under $10 million.For the first time, senior executive positions were broken outbetween firms with sales over and under $25 million. ...
