Practically unfettered by competition in small markets while other retailers clobber each other in major markets, Hibbett has upped its planned openings for this year to at least 50 stores from 48 and will open 55 stores next year. At the beginning of the year Hibbett said it would open 32 stores this year and at least 42 stores next year. Hibbett opened 12 stores during the most recent quarter, including new states OH and WV. It has 25 commitments already for next year.
