FOOTSTAR SEES RISE IN SALES, DIP IN COMPS.


Total sales for the five-week period ended Jun. 30were up 8.9% to $240.2 million versus $220.6 million, helped by a 0.5% increasein the athletic segment to $88.6 million and a 14.5% gain from Meldisco to$151.6 million. Comps for the period slipped 2.3% in both the Medisco andathletic segments. The Just For Feet superstore division and newly acquired J.Baker businesses met expectations, though management notes softness in sales ofmen’s and seasonal footwear at Meldisco, as well as weakness in the men’srunning category at Footaction.
