DESCENTE SALES RISE SLIGHTLY.


Revenues for the six months ended Sep. 30 picked up 1%to ¥30.54 billion (US$282.5 mm), but net profit dipped 21% to ¥708 million($6.5 mm).

Athletic wear sales rose 2%. The category accountedfor 46% of total sales. Descente baseball and volleyballproducts sold well, as did Umbro soccer goods, but revenues for LeCoq Sportif and Arena dropped. The golf market in Japan continues toshrink, although the company says the U.S. market is making a comeback. Golfrevenues slipped 2% and formed 36% of Descente’s total.
