COLUMBIA SALES, NET HIT Q3 RECORDS.


Net income rose 11% to $52,205,000 compared to$46,915,000 on a 16% revenue hike to $504,028,000 from $434,473,000 for thethree months ended Sep. 30, a profit result that was below expectations becauseof added shipping costs to bring product to market. Gross margin was down 90basis points to 42.5% because of the added airfreight costs, and COLM notedthat the operating margin would have leveraged with normal airfreight costs.SG&A expense rose 19% to 29.4% of sales against 28.6% on higher personnelcosts, more advertising, implementing an IT program and higher retail costs.
