BILLABONG NET RISES 21%.


Billabong posted net earnings of A$73.7 million(US$48.2 mm) vs. A$61.0 million, on a 24% rise in revenues to A$622.9 million(US$407.4 mm) for the year ended June 30. The profit figure was adjusted fromA$76.2 million for an income tax benefit. Turnover grew 33% in the U.S. (48% inUS$) to A$302.8 million, 27% to A$151.0 million in Europe and 9% to A$169.1million in Australasia. The U.S. increase came despite public concerns over warin Iraq in March and April, followed by unseasonably cool weather in May andJune. Girls sales rose more than 50% and now makes up almost one-third of BBG’sU.S. sales.
